Eurostar - how do we set it up?
Jul 16th, 2009 at 4:43pm

I am looking at how to set up Eurostar transportation – we currently have it set up as a normal “product” which seems wrong to me – we can’t set the origin and destination for example.

Geert says:
All services in the database are setup in the same manner. We only distinguish between whether a service is Accommodation (requires room pricing), Non-Accommodation or Flight (typically for clients that book AD HOC flights with lots of segments).

Eurostar would fall under non-accommodation and would be setup like a regular transfer service.

I usually advice clients the following:

Location code = Origin
Option code = Destination+variation whether first or second class.

A full option string could be:
STPTREURSTABRU1

STP=Saint Pancras
TR=Train
EURSTA=Supplier
BRU1=Brussels 1st class

We currently set up Eurostar more or less as you describe, this being for trains on which we hold an allocation.

What we are doing now is booking with Eurostar direct – so it’s a “fixed service”. It could be any combination of origin + destination throughout Europe. I don’t want to set up options for all these, I’d prefer just one option eg LONRAEURLON?????? (which is our version of what you suggest below) with dynamic origin and destination, depart, arr etc..

geert:
For each variation of a price a new service option has to be defined in Tourplan.
If the price is the same for several variations in location you can setup Service Defaults for the service option.

Note that replicated locations is only available fro iCom from 2.05 onwards. You are still on 2.04.
